Most men have no idea what the back of their neck looks like. It’s the “well, I can’t see it so I don’t care” mentality. The 5 famous words clients love to say “Just make me look good”, can be a mistake if you land in the hands of the wrong barber.
The only time a client ever looks at the back of their head is if by chance they are in an elevator and catch their reflection in the overhead mirrors or in a fitting room trying on clothes. Here are the mistakes to avoid next time you are in the barber chair:
This occurs when the neckline is being raised above the natural neck line and it’s being shaped into a round or square shape. Some men naturally have lower neck lines than others. However, raising it unnaturally and getting rid of the growth pattern will cause your hair to grow in awkwardly.
Within a week the natural line will be so obvious underneath your “carved out and raised hairline”.
This happens when the barber carves the hairline into an unnatural rounded or square line. Getting rid of the natural growth pattern in hopes of making their client look “neat”. This is only a temporary fix because in a couple days the natural growth will be back making it stand out under the neatly cut unnatural hairline. In order to avoid this, we recommend tapering your haircuts either a little or a lot depending on the style of your haircut. We will still clean up your hairline, while keeping the integrity of the natural shape.
The perfect neckline:
We believe that the perfect neckline is a natural looking line. This will give you the most desired results with a haircut that will still look good weeks into the cut. Some men still prefer the rounder or squared neckline, however our best advice is to try the neckline that is blended and tapered into the neck. Each person has a unique neckline that shows personality and individuality.
“This is a tapered by scissor point natural hairline. It is blended and smooth compared to the before photo. If a hairline at the neckline is cut high it can make a decent haircut look disastrous.“
The proper neckline gives your haircut longevity. Meaning that if your neckline is cleaned up following the natural growth pattern of your hair, the new growth underneath will not be as noticeable. As a client this means you can stretch times between haircuts which saves you time and money. If you are a victim of unnatural hairlines, you know you have to get your neck cleaned up every couple of weeks.
A good haircut can make or break the man. You can spend thousands of dollars on your wardrobe, but without the right haircut and/or facial grooming the look will never be complete. When you are lucky enough to find the right barber that can give you an exceptional haircut, your hair will remain as easy to maintain weeks into the cut. If you continue to keep up with your monthly trims, you will notice that you spend less time grooming each day and less time in the barber chair.
